I've been blessed to know some remarkable women.. women who climbed mountains, were undercover spies in war time. Dressed in men's clothing in order to safely travel through the Middle East. They were daring, outrageous and always open to new friends and adventures. I believe their secret was a forever deep hunger to learn more... be more.. One of those women was Dame Freya Stark. She was the first women to solo climb Mont Blanc. She's been gone for awhile, but the last adventure I heard about was when in her late 80s, she saiiled down the Nile on a barge with a friend I introduced her to. One of the TX ladies who came to stop Venice from sinking.. The two of them were filmed by the BBC talking stories. Venice continues to sink.. in all its bittersweet glory. b

But those intrepid outrageous Texas gals dared to try the impossible. I like to believe they returned home with some amazing tales to tell their grandchildren. And maybe they were still wearing those stacked wooden heelled springalators, studded with rhinestones! I can hear them now.. Like Molly Ivins, Tex reporter, story teller, all around outrageous sister! Keep fighting for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce!
